May is another big month in a big year but it also carries a softness that will help to inspire romance, creativity and heart openings. 2020 was anticipated to pack a wallop with the game changing planetary energy that started us off, but I think I can speak for many when I say the last 4 months have been off the charts. We are creeping up to the second half of the year and May acts as our gateway to the next chapter. At the start of the month, we have a string of planets going retrograde, the Lunar Nodes are changing signs and by the month’s end, we are preparing to enter Eclipse Season.

To start the month off, we have a nice transit of the Moon sextile Venus on May 1.  Celebrated as Beltane or May Day in Pagan cultures this holiday was designed as a celebration of the return of life and fertility to a world that has passed through the winter season. This transit brings opportunities to relate to people better, especially women. Anything to do with romance and love is favored under this influence.

On May 5, the Lunar Nodes will shift from Cancer and Capricorn to Gemini and Sagittarius, setting a new collective soul lesson in motion. The Lunar Nodes are not a planets but rather, a mathematical point between the Sun and the Moon. There are two Lunar Nodes; the North Node represents where we are heading and what we need to learn, where the South Node represents where we have been and what foundation we are building upon. This sacred point in the sky is said to indicate our soul purpose on both a collective and individual level. Having the Nodes in Gemini and Sagittarius indicate we are moving into a time where self-expression and freedom of speech is going to be highlighted. On a collective level, we are learning to share our story and celebrate the stories of others, but to also not get too caught up in the facts and data. This placement is about accepting other people’s truths and learning to take a simpler approach in how we choose to think about things. More information on this shift will be forthcoming.

The Full Moon in Scorpio on May 7 has a spiritual, healing and compassionate influence because of its interaction with the transit of Mercury sextile Neptune. (This transit is good for relaxation, creativity, communication, and spiritual pursuits. Your words become soothing and can actually be healing to others.) The Scorpio Full Moon is always a potent one as it represents a time of transformation. Under the light of the bright Scorpio Super Moon, we have increased power to make changes in our lives and in the world around us. It is a potent time for release work and creating space. The next Full Moon we have will be an Eclipse, so this energy is also preparing us for a bigger release point that is still to come.

Mothers’ Day on May 10 has a pleasant transit of the Sun sextile Mercury. Listen very closely to your intuition during the next 2 days.  It will show you where to be and what to do in order to accomplish your goals.

Mercury, the planet of intellect and communication moves into Gemini on May 11. When this planet sets up camp in Gemini, a cosmic door is being swung open, helping us become more clear-headed, objective, and mentally flexible. Mercury is all about facts and ideas, and ways to communicate that information. Gemini is an Air sign associated with cool detachment and reason. Because of this, Mercury’s time in Gemini becomes the ultimate channel for information to flow through.

Later that same day Saturn in Aquarius begins its retrograde orbit. Starting in Aquarius and moving to Capricorn in July until late September, this Saturn transit will influence the individual and the collective. This planet of order's retrograde period is a time to cultivate discipline, patience, and self-restraint. When faster moving planets like Mercury or Mars go retrograde, confusion typically reigns. But that's not necessarily so with slower moving planets. Saturn Retrograde may actually help us see things clearer by shifting our focus from the external to the internal, which may even empower us to move forward. Before Saturn goes retrograde on May 11, consider what you're allowing to hold you back so you can work on it over the next couple months.

Mars enters Pisces on May 13 and this is a difficult placement for fiery Mars in watery Pisces. In Pisces Mars achieves its ends by a variety of means, but not its usual confrontational style, it will operate in a more passive aggressive manner. The best way to make use of Mars in Pisces is to use your imagination as one of the most powerful tools you have to bring about changes to your reality.

Venus begins its retrograde period also on May 13. It goes without saying that from now until June 25th, this is NOT the time to get married.  I would also be cautious in starting any new romantic or financial situations. Financial deals may also need a new planning strategy, and the creative projects may need different corrections, but also new approaches, this being the moment of great inspirations, great creative ideas. In the tense relationships, breakups may occur, because the issues that were hidden and avoided for a long time can now surface. It could be a good moment for reconciliation, forgiveness, and the reenactment of a love relationship once ended. The zodiac signs under Venus influence (Libra and Taurus), will perceive this period as a continuous blockage, unable to manifest as they would want. The movable zodiac sign of Gemini is also influenced during this transit and I recommend you not to make any decisions during this period related to partners or business, but to wait until it passes.

On May 14 Jupiter begins its retrograde orbit in the sign of Capricorn until September 13, 2020. During this time, we may not feel as optimistic and our plans to tackle big new ideas or endeavors will slow and perhaps stall. We all have inner wisdom if we take the time to listen to it, and Jupiter Retrograde encourages just that: Take a time out, slow down, and listen to your inner voice. Even while retrograde, bountiful Jupiter wants to help you figure out how to grow and change and become the best version of yourself. Use this time wisely.

When the Sun enters Gemini on May 20, the energy shifts now to light and airy. The Sun in Gemini encourages us to move quickly, multitask and be flexible.  Should an obstacle block your path, think of ways around it.  The downside here is Gemini's energy can cause a lack of focus and a tendency toward superficiality.

The Gemini New Moon on May 22 will activate the new placement of the Lunar Nodes and Venus Retrograde themes. It also carries some sweeter, lighter energy that will help us to feel motivated when it comes to starting new projects. As we reach the end of the month, we start to prepare for a new Eclipse cycle to begin. We may feel a big release on the way or an ending drawing near.

Mercury moving into the more emotional sign of Cancer on May 28 sees a strong shift in the way the people and situations behave. Mercury will have an extended stay in Cancer due to its retrograde period in June. People will be a bit more understanding and sympathetic during this transit.  But it could become more difficult for some to stand up for themselves.  Mercury in Cancer suggests that our thoughts will be a bit more affected by emotional and subconscious patterns.

We may feel a little stop and go energy in our physical world due to all the retrograde planets this month, but in our inner world, we can really dive deep and uncover new insights and inspirations. Through this time of change and upheaval in the world, we still have the power to make choices and to ask ourselves, “Who do I want to be in this situation?”
