Beginning today the Lunar Nodes leave the signs of Cancer and Capricorn where they have been since November of 2018 and move into the signs of Gemini and Sagittarius until January of 2022.
But before we get into how that will affect us, I’m sure you are asking, “So what exactly are the Lunar Nodes?” The Lunar Nodes are mathematical points traced between the Sun and the Moon. The Nodes are not a planet nor are they a physical object; instead, they are a point where the Sun and Moon’s orbital paths around the Earth intersect. The Nodes are a pair. The North Node is always directly opposite the South Node, in sign and house. So, for example, if the North Node is in Aries in the First House, the South Node will be in Libra in the Seventh House.
Theories of the origin of the Lunar Nodes are as old as astrology itself. The metaphor of the dragon’s head and tail make up the opposite nature of the nodes, with the North Node represented by the dragon’s head, a place of intake directed toward ambitious desires and making new choices. In contrast, the South Node represents the tail of the dragon and unveils material we need to release, harvest or re-channel.
Once the North Node shifts into Gemini, the planet Mercury will become our guide in the pursuit of new opportunities. Since Gemini is a mutable (changeable) air sign, we can expect to find ourselves on an unpredictable path in which we will need to be okay with a sudden change of direction or focus. It will be important be ready to put aside rigid plans and remain open to being led in a new direction. With the South Node in Sagittarius, the planet Jupiter will be offering counsel on how to resolve and wisely draw from our beliefs. While Jupiter does signify increase, its ruling over the South Node will have us examining our underlying philosophy of life in order to shed the aspects that are no longer working for us. Since Jupiter will be residing in Capricorn for most of 2020 along with Pluto and Saturn, we will need to regenerate our vision of life by digging underneath the surface of issues and dealing with any difficulties we discover there. The North Node in Gemini points toward new choices and growth, ambitious desires, and absorption of new material. In contrast, the South Node in Sagittarius unveils old, familiar issues in need of digesting, decomposing, harvesting, and release.
If you are approximately 18, 37, 55, or 74 years old you will have your Nodal Return, which is a time when you effortlessly move in the direction of your destiny. Fated events and fated relationships await you. Things fall into place. If you are approximately 27, 46, 64 or 83 years old, you will have your Reverse Nodal Return, which is a time of adjustment, integration of what you’ve learned and karmic calibration. However, the transit of the Nodes will influence all of us in one way or another, depending on where they transit our charts at this time. (For more information, contact me.)
The last time the Lunar Nodes were in Gemini and Sagittarius was from October 2001 to April 2003, so we can look back to world events that were happening at this time to see what similar themes we may be working with. That period of time was right after 9/11 and resulted in the creation of the Department of Homeland Security and the enacting of the Patriot Act.
More time is needed to see how this energy unfolds and where these shared lessons may take us, but ultimately it feels we are shifting into a time where communication and truth is going to be the focus. After all we have experienced collectively so far, I can safely say that we are all going to be called upon to find our authentic voice, to allow our curiosity to lead the way, and to embrace new ways of thinking.
