This month we are inundated with airy Aquarius energy. Aquarius is ruled by Uranus (which is currently traveling through Taurus), the only planet that spins on its side. And there will indeed be moments that business as usual goes sideways, if not completely upside-down.
We begin this month with Mercury retrograde in Aquarius making all forms of communication difficult and taxing. So far we’ve seen debates over freedom of speech, online “censorship” and the regulation of hate speech. And the epitome of an Aquarian name - Robinhood - suddenly restricting stocks (the realm of Taurus) including Game Stop and AMC. But we should use this energy in the best way possible and take a look at what has changed or what we’ve put aside and use Mercury to revise, rework or review. Mercury will remain retrograde for most of this month, assisting us in realigning with the many changes that will be taking place.
Venus enters Aquarius on February 1, lending a hand by helping us detach from our current situations so we can view them more objectively. This movement is important, as it completes what will be an Aquarius stellium. From February 1 to February 17, the Sun, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn will all be in Aquarius. Just to get an idea of what a stellium can do, in January of 2020, we had a stellium in Capricorn, which correlated to the pandemic that shook our world. This new lineup could really mean a big shift when it comes to fighting the virus.
On February 11, this month’s new moon will also be in Aquarius, further enhancing this fixed, air sign energy. Whatever manifests around this time is likely to set the tone as we move deeper into the Age of Aquarius energies. New Moons are always a time of new beginning and setting intentions, but with Mercury in Retrograde and the strong cosmic currents, it may be best to lay low and focus on resting and recharging. This is a good time to find ways to support your local community or volunteer/donate to humanitarian projects. Also today is the Lunar New Year and we usher in the year of the strong and steady Metal Ox. The next 12 months will be devoted to creating solid infrastructures, such as vaccination plans and sites, for example.

Mars forms a sextile to Neptune on Valentine’s Day/February 14. This is a highly creative aspect that unites our imagination and passion. With Mars in practical Taurus there’s encouragement to give form to our vision along with the will and drive to make it happen. Acting on intuition is also favored as images from our dreams and meditations prompt us towards to right path.
On February 17, Saturn and Uranus form the first of three squares of this year. This is a conflict between old and new, freedom and restriction. The system itself (Saturn) needs an upgrade (Uranus) but change is hard and naturally there is resistance. What has always been is being overturned and therefore people are anxious. Still, the promise of this aspect is a more stable society for the future and politics that serves the many instead of the few. So although life may seem hard right now, we have the brilliance to shape a better future.
The Sun moves into Pisces on the February 18. This is the final sign of the zodiac cycle, which means things are reaching a culmination point. Pisces is a water sign, so we may feel more connected to our emotions and extra sensitive during this time. We may also feel more reflective and ready to let go of the past in order to embrace the start of the new zodiac year which begins in March at the Spring Equinox.
This ingress will no doubt feel like a breath of fresh air, and a break from so much intellectual and logical focus. This is also the beginning of a more stable stage in which the cosmos allows us to tap into a less detached and more sensual, down-to-earth energy as Venus squares Mars on February 19. If handled positively, this juicy clash between the cosmic lovers can shift us back to our relationships with the real intention of connection. Life has been a little chaotic and as Mercury goes direct the next day, we get the chance to clarify misunderstandings and disagreements that we were previously too busy to even focus on.
Once we get to the last week of February, the astrology has a completely different flavor. We are now at the beginning of Pisces season and as the pace of life begins to slow down. On February 24, Mars in Taurus sends friendly vibes to Pluto in Capricorn, allowing for some deep transformation to take place by asserting some direction to our goals. Venus also lends a hand by switching from Aquarius into Pisces on February 25. Venus is exalted in Pisces, which means Pisces compliments Venus' nature so its energy is magnified. This placement will bring an increased level of inspiration to your finances as well as your romantic life.
We end the month with the Full Moon in Virgo on February 27. Under this lunation we have a wonderful vision of how things could or should be (the Sun in Pisces) but we must do our best with what we have (Virgo). This is the last Full Moon of the astrological year and it carries some beautiful, empowering, and healing energies. This Full Moon urges us to strike a balance between work and service, practicality and impracticality, criticism and acceptance. With the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives.
