September may start slowly, but it will pick up speed in the second half, gathering potency as the month progresses. I’m not gonna lie: The outlook for the rest of the year is pretty intense. We’ve got Mercury retrograde through election season, two more eclipses, a final Jupiter-Pluto meetup and the “Great Conjunction” of Jupiter and Saturn to navigate before 2021 arrives. (Don’t worry; I’ll be with you every step of the way!)
We have a big month ahead. We begin with the Full Moon in Pisces on September 2. Yes, sometimes we can be awash with emotions during this lunation but with the only major aspect being a sextile to objective Uranus in Taurus it feels like we have the ability to keep our head above water. Combining out of the box thinking with imagination should help us to find our way out of any muddles that we find ourselves in. Later in the month, the New Moon in Virgo on September 17 asks us to make a new start that is geared towards making improvements in our lives. But the opposition from Neptune could introduce disillusion and disarray. High ideals and perfectionism could get in the way of our plans. Thankfully there are supporting aspects with Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all in earthy Capricorn which helps to anchor us in reality.
Mercury enters Libra on September 5 and communication is gracious, fair, balanced and diplomatic. Whether we apply this focus to the world-at-large or upon the inequalities in our relationships, the lens of our perceptual field will now hone in on where things are out of proportion. Reciprocity is key, the give-and-take in all commerce, conversation and exchange. This phase can also generate loads of indecision and confusion as we try to achieve that ever-elusive balancing of the scales in our minds. Eventually we must commit or quit, even if the situation is not perfect. At the end of the month on September 27 communication collides head-on with the dark sign of secrets and privacy during Mercury’s transit into Scorpio. As emotions become heightened, it’s almost like you never know what you’re going to get during this period. Honesty will come into question and you may take on the role of detective while trying to determine the truth in situations. Communication becomes a means of control, rather than connection. However, seeing our fears doesn't mean that we have to perpetuate them. The opportunities are ripe for discussing heretofore forbidden subjects, resulting in greater degrees of trust and intimacy.
Venus enters Leo on September 6 and this transit is all about taking a chance on love and expressing what’s in your heart. It’s time to be daring in your relationships. Whether you’re bursting with new passion for someone special or need to bring up a problem with your spouse/significant other, this influence will help you find the words, actions and courage to convey your feelings. Enjoy the vibe whilst you can because Mars then stations retrograde on September 9. Mars stationing retrograde tells us that we are going to have to hold off goal chasing for a while and instead turn within to reconnect with our motivation and passion. As with any retrograde period, it’s a time of reassessment. Mars retrograde will give us an opportunity to explore where we might have denied ourselves what we want, root out anger that is undermining us and strengthen our willpower. And while it’s important that people don’t feel silenced or suppressed, it’s equally vital that we speak from an informed and mindful place. That’s not easy with so much pain churning up a wellspring of feelings from the deepest parts of our collective psyche. The upside of Mars retrograde is that it will reduce the world’s emotional temperature from a boil to a simmer. The tricky part is that Mars in reverse can cause us to stuff down our anger, creating the effect of a dormant volcano. All that suppressed rage could explode when Mars turns direct on November 13, one day after the already volatile Jupiter-Pluto conjunction of November 12. (More on that later.) Be careful out there!
Jupiter completes its yearly retrograde on September 13, stationing direct on this date. Jupiter can indicate judgments and legal issues so it makes me wonder whether there might be some important developments around this time. While Mars retrograde keeps us in check, we may feel a sense of relief as one part of life at least seems to be starting to move forward again.
The season turns on September 22 as the Sun enters Libra on the Autumn Equinox, a time of equal day and equal night. Now more than ever we need to see whether the scales balance in our own lives too. Libra season is a time for realigning ourselves to our center through making adjustments in our relationships and within ourselves. Libra is about healthy partnerships of all kinds, working together, cooperation, give and take. This is the time of taking stock as we reach the second and main harvest period.
Finally, Saturn stations direct on September 29. Saturn direct means there are fewer problems getting in the way of our goals. Retrogrades are times of reflection, re-do’s, and revisions. They’re traditionally times of looking back and taking stock, slowing down and thinking things over. Once a planet has gone direct and is moving forward again, you don’t have to keep looking in the rear-view mirror anymore. You can look forward and move on. This Saturn in Capricorn transit elevates your goals and ambitions. Being in the sign it naturally rules, Saturn feels comfortable pushing you even more professionally. This is the last transit of Saturn in Capricorn to clear up any work/career goals and plans. It will move back into Aquarius in December.
