Saturn/Pluto Conjunction of 2020 - The Dark & Deep

This Saturn/Pluto conjunction only occurs every 34 years and no one alive has experienced it in Capricorn. The last time these two planets were in Capricorn was in 1518; Henry the VIII was King of England and the Protestant reformation began when Martin Luther pinned his Ninety-five Theses on Wittenberg Castle Church door. The results of this alignment are life-changing and long-lasting. We will feel the energy of this conjunction all year, but may not realize the effects until much later. While Saturn is busy protecting and preserving security and order, Pluto is seeking to ferret out and transform what lies hidden beneath the surface (and has been since moving into Capricorn in 2008).  This conjunction will highlight banking, the stock market, government and big business.  This slow-moving aspect is expected to include conversion to a virtual form of money, but also trade irregularities, economic downturns and misuse of power. It is sure to have a polarizing effect on the election. Let us break down what this means.

Capricorn is a Cardinal sign, which means it gets things moving and is the facilitator for change. Being an earth sign, the energy is stable, dependable and hard-working; however it can be single-minded as well.  In the world, it rules over structures, corporations, governments.

Pluto has been in Capricorn since 2008 until 2024.  Pluto is a planet of transformation; what does not serve us is removed and changed into something better. Keywords: Elimination and transformation.

Saturn is also in Capricorn the sign it rules. This planet represents structure, steadfastness, determination, and limitation. The Teacher asks its student to “know thyself”. Keywords: Challenges and teacher

During the periods when Saturn has conjoined Pluto, we have seen things like world wars and economic bursts: For example:

  • Assassination of Arch Duke Ferdinand which was the catalyst of WWI

  • First telephone call across the United States.

  • Creation of the first solar cell to collect solar power.

  • Great advancements in thought as with Einstein's theory.

How will Saturn conjunct Pluto 2020 affect us?

On a global level, we may expect to see big shifts in things such as governments, political boundaries, economic happenings, or far-reaching advancements in technology or thought. As with most things, we may not realize the impact of some of these shifts until much later.

Saturn Pluto alignments represent the need for cyclical change to the structures of life and how you relate to reality. This kind of deep change is always a challenge because it involves loss, endings and death. But no matter how bad things get, it’s important to remember there’s nothing inherently bad about any planet or transit. Everything happens for a reason and nothing is meant to be mindlessly destructive. It only feels that way because it hurts and that’s why we tend to react badly to these transits. At best, these times can be empowering, when you can work with great discipline to organize systems and resources that improve life and create abundance.
