On December 21st, the Winter Solstice the Sun moves into earthy Capricorn, ruled by Saturn and its symbol the tenacious Mountain Goat. The Sun in Capricorn picks up where the visionary Sun in Sagittarius left off where our ideals took center stage. In Capricorn, the Sun takes what's been envisioned and finds a way to make it happen, to make the commitment, devise the plan, do the work, etc. While the Sun is in Capricorn, we are reminded that each of us have a purpose in life.
This year began with retrograde Mercury and it seems only fitting to end with one as well. 2016 has been a challenging year in hundreds of ways and 2017 will bring new hurdles to deal with as well. (Watch for my 2017 Astrological Overview in a few weeks.) So this period of pause needs to be looked upon and used in the best possible way.
On September 22nd, the Autumn Equinox, the Sun begins its month-long journey through Libra, the Scales. Libra a cardinal air sign is ruled by Venus and assigned to the Justice card of the tarot. Libra is the sign of balance and under the influence of Libra we seek harmony between the aspects of our life that are inharmonious. Just as we cross the midway point of the seasonal year at this time, we also cross the midpoint of the Zodiac, which begins in the spring with Aries.
On July 22nd, the Sun enters Leo, the Lion, the sign associated with the Strength card of the Tarot. In Cancer, the Sun's focus was inward, now in Leo it's all about self-expression and creativity. Since the Sun is Leo's native ruler, the Sun is dignified in this sign. You can expect the motivation of the next four weeks to be about personal forms of creativity and style. Now is the time to take a risk, using Leo's courage to do so. While the Sun is in Leo, be generous of your time and self. Let the Leo Sun's warmth help ease your worries.
On June 20th, the Summer Solstice, the Sun moves into Cancer. The cardinal sign of Cancer represents our roots, our family, the past, the home and our emotions. The Chariot card is paired with the sign Cancer which is ruled by the Moon and its symbol the celestial crab with its hard shell and soft interior. While the Sun is in Cancer, we are reminded of our roots and to connect with family, biological or otherwise. In Cancer, the Sun is more reserved, sensitive, somewhat shy and intuitive. The Sun’s energy focused on the inner workings of the self; who we are, what we desire, who/what motivates all rooted at our hearts and our emotional side.
