Jupiter/Saturn in Aquarius
We were all put through the wringer in 2020. Structure and structures that we relied to navigate life were irrevocably stripped away. All of us have suffered some type of loss, from losing jobs, to losing family members, no one has escaped unscathed. From the simplest of acts like going to the movies, to major life events such as getting married, northing was easy or guaranteed. So now what? There’s no going back, only forward. The universe has taken away, now it gives so we can rebuild. Not the same, but better.
Saturn re-enters Aquarius
December 16, 2020 to March 7, 2023
The first building block is Saturn returning to Aquarius. Saturn first entered Aquarius in March of 2020 and then moved back into Capricorn during its retrograde period. On December 16, Saturn re-enters Aquarius and will remain there until it transits into Pisces in 2023. Occupying its airy home for the first time since 1994, Saturn in Aquarius will turn its scythe toward unknown terrain in order to gather and harvest wisdom off the mainstream path and beyond the norm. Saturn feels secure, strong and comfortable in Aquarius, but discovers a different way of expression than when its residing in Capricorn where it is surrounded by dense stone and earthly matters. In the airy climate of Aquarius, Saturn turns its slow and steady gaze outward, reordering structures and boundaries in order to make connections, distribute information, and develop innovations.
As the last planet visible to the naked eye, Saturn has always represented humanity’s boundaries between what is and what could be. Saturn’s epic vantage point gives him an intimate knowledge of humanity and our highest potential. When Saturn is in Aquarius the energy is humanitarian. It is full of boundless ideas about what will improve the lives of others and how shared efforts can make the world a better place.
Saturn in Aquarius can also be a very auspicious time to begin or deepen a relationship. This transit brings people together to reach beyond the individual’s capabilities. Romances or marriages that are established during this time are some of the most powerful and activated unions of all. As much as this transit strengthens and deepens connections, it also has the potential to end that which is no longer serving us (or maybe never did in the first place). Be on the lookout for people and connections that drain you and be ready to let them go. Now is the time for building sturdy and lasting structures.
If you were born with Saturn in Aquarius you are having either your 1st or 2nd Saturn return, depending on your age. Your Saturn Return is a time of coming into alignment with your life's true path. To find out more information click here.
Here are some of the events that occurred during the previous Saturn transit of Aquarius:
Dissolution of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War
Lots of independence movements in countries around the world, including the breakup of the former Yugoslavia
Maastricht Treaty signed marking the start of the European Union
White South Africans voted for political reform which led to the end of apartheid
Church of England voted to allow women to become priests
Use of so-called ‘smart bombs’ in the Gulf War in Iraq
Tim Berners-Lee launched the World Wide Web project.
Jupiter enters Aquarius
December 19, 2020 to December 28, 2021
The next building block is benevolent Jupiter moving into innovative Aquarius from December 19, leaving in May 2021 during its retrograde period and then moving back into Aquarius on July 28 and remaining there until December 2021. With Uranus as its ruler, this Air sign can be impetuous. Like an eccentric genius Aquarius thinks outside the box. Aquarius understands that, “there is no spoon” (The Matrix, in my opinion, is a great example of this energy.) Aquarius will influence Jupiter and help us focus on the future. To be precise, you will be focusing on the changes that are needed to reach your future goals. Blessed with objectivity, this Jupiter in Aquarius will allow you to dig deep into matters. The greater good is also on Aquarius’ agenda. Charities for the collective and overall improvement for future generations will become prominent. Hopefully, we can make important strides in dealing with climate change, institutionalized racism and other societal ills. Social attitudes are likely to become more broad-minded. Jupiter was in Aquarius when Barack Obama, a Leo (Aquarius’ opposite sign) and the first African-American to achieve the presidency, fits in tightly with the astrology of change and of unconventionality. It's interesting that the first year of Obama's presidency coincided more or less with Jupiter's transit of Aquarius, which can be an effective catalyst within various organizations and groups. Kamala Harris, a woman of color and the first female Vice President certainly checks the box for continuing this ground-breaking trend. Under this transit, people will look for unorthodox, intellectual solutions to current problems. The tendency will be to gain understanding and wisdom through consultation, consensus, and a willingness to embrace what might seem to be outlandish solutions.
For those of you with Jupiter in Aquarius in your natal chart you are having your Jupiter Return. When this happens it’s a momentous occasion for most. To find out more click here.
