The Summer 2018 Eclipses

This summer is marked by three eclipses instead of the usual two and many planets being retrograde. The combination of these astrological factors is something that is relatively rare and it shapes an unpredictable, dynamic and hot landscape. But before we get into the nitty gritty of what to expect, a brief summary of what are solar and lunar eclipses.

A solar eclipse is just like a regular New Moon where the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun. The New Moon represents the end of one cycle and the beginning of a new cycle. The New Moon is the time of internalizing and of looking within. A New Moon influence lasts for four weeks but a solar eclipse usually lasts about six months. However, there are two solar eclipses this summer and the following solar eclipse on August 11 will supersede the July 12 solar eclipse. A lunar eclipse, which occurs when the moon is full, focuses your attention on your emotions, intimate relationships, and your home and family. With a total lunar eclipse in particular, the blotting out of the Moon represents a resetting of your emotions, clearing away the emotional baggage of the previous six months.

New Moon in Cancer/Partial Solar Eclipse

The Solar Eclipse on July 12 is in Cancer is the ‘mother’ sign. It rules your sense of belonging to a home and family (whether or not it is biological and chosen). It's where you find sanctuary and the eclipse activates an area of your life that has not seen much action for a while. Is it your relationships or career? This eclipse is exactly opposite Pluto so expect stark contrasts. This Pluto/Moon match-up indicates some sort of crisis with your self-esteem, a relationship or an event.

Full Moon in Aquarius/Total Lunar Eclipse

This occurs on July 27 and is in Aquarius is the ‘community’ sign. It symbolizes groups and collaborative movements. This eclipse brings a big change and signifies a major turning point. Aquarian energy loves change, so it will be a time to make sure you are well grounded and flexible to maneuver around any obstacles.  With Mercury Rx at this time, confusion can muddy the waters, so be sure to use your coping skills and work arounds when Mercury messes with your plans.

New Moon in Leo/Partial Solar Eclipse

The third and final eclipse of summer is on August 11.  Leo is the ‘father’ sign. It represents leadership, kingship and passion. This eclipse brings a fresh start. But it is conjunct Mercury retrograde and square Jupiter so expect drama as you go over old ground in one broad sweep. Things long left unsaid need to come out before you can step into the future.
