May begins a very interesting time as we work through a major sign change in one of the outer planets, Uranus. Since the outer planets move so slowly around the Sun and stay for years in a sign they influence entire generations of people. May is off to a running start in shaking up our world.
Right now you might find yourself in a contemplative mood, as Pluto continues its retrograde orbit along with the Scorpio Full Moon highlighting what no longer works in your life. The energy right now is almost peaceful, but it’s truly the calm before the storm.
On May 7, there are two intense squares that are just going to make Monday more manic than usual. First, the morning starts off with Mercury squaring Pluto giving communication a manipulative air. Debating conflicts will go nowhere and exhaust the participants. Later in the day, Venus and Neptune square off. That energy can be described as delusional and deceptive. Venus rules finances as well as beauty, so watch spending and your bottom line. Maybe that deal is not such a bargain after all. Wait 24 hours for the veil to lift before writing that check. The next day on the 8th, things look up with Jupiter opposite the Sun bringing success to plans and goals that have been well thought out. For the ones that have been stalled, solutions seem to suddenly come to light.
On Mother’s Day, May 13, Mercury enters Taurus, and this favors practical thinking and relating to clear, measurable benefits. Ideas and thoughts become significant resources. On the other hand, due to Taurus’ fixed earth sign nature, we tend to think slower and the rigidity of ideas can lead to arguments or unproductive methods. The New Moon in Taurus on the 15th is one of the most fertile times to initiate new beginnings. Also, don’t be fooled by Taurus’ earthy vibes, he’s ruled by Venus, so expect some lusty times as well.
But the big news this month is on May 15 Uranus moves into Taurus. I’ll have a separate blog post on this closer to the event, but for now here’s a taste. This marks the beginning of a new 7 year cycle that suggests a longer term period of shocking events world-wide revolving around scientific technology, the financial world and Mother Earth. Uranus changes signs every 7 years, the last time it was in Taurus was from 1935 to 1942. If you remember your history those years included The Great Depression, the beginning of WWII and the abdication of King Edward VIII of England. On the plus side during that time, we had the following inventions: the electric guitar, the ball-point pen and the kidney dialysis machine to name a few. With Venus as its ruler, we can also expect shifts in the financial realm, especially long term investments.
There’s another worrying transit on May 16, when Mars moves into Aquarius. We’re openly resistant against traditional and the same old routine, and stepping into nontraditional options to find a bigger meaning to our life. This change is a most significant one for Mars as it transits into Aquarius, the sign ruled by Uranus. This sign change triples the emphasis on abrupt change and because this transit also includes a retrograde period, Mars will spend 6 months in Aquarius and it will square Uranus 3 times. The last time Mars was in Aquarius was last year’s Election Day, November 8th and I think we can all agree on the shock that was felt on that day. We get the first of the 3 squares right off the bat today as well. For the next 2 days, the sheer level of physical and nervous energy you experience during this time is very difficult to control. It seems that every little thing that can go wrong is going wrong, and there may be nothing you can do about it. You may shock other people as well as yourself and need to watch sudden outbursts that you’ll regret later. You’re impatient, reckless and impulsive in your actions and will be more accident-prone. Be especially careful when operating machinery, electrical appliances or motor vehicles, as sudden and unexpected events are common during this time.
For those of us needing some TLC after the last few days, Venus moves into Cancer on May 19 and is ready to nurture us all. There is no more tender and loving sign than Cancer and when Venus is here, feelings are more easily expressed. Empathy comes freely and there is a real desire to provide nourishment to those around you.
The Sun enters Gemini on the 20th and the energy shifts to light and airy. The Sun in Gemini encourages us to move quickly, multitask and be flexible. Should an obstacle block your path, think of ways around it. The downside here is Gemini's energy can cause a lack of focus and a tendency toward superficiality.
Mercury enters its own sign of Gemini on the 29th and life gets chattier than normal. Gemini is the sign of duality, thus we may feel our minds flip-flopping between opposite poles frequently. This is an excellent time for plowing through all correspondence and dabbling in other forms of mental exchange that would normally intimidate you. Gemini rules the “both/and” philosophy versus the “either/or” conundrum. This means that instead of forcing yourself to choose, remain open to both possibilities. Flexibility of the mind is what is needed now.
The energy of May wraps up with the Sagittarius Full Moon also on the 29th. This is a beautiful Full Moon that is really going to help us to open our hearts big and wide. This potent full moon shines on only once this year, so use it to fuel and ignite your dreams. With the Sun in the creative idea sign of Gemini, this full moon could bring you powerful ideas to boost anything you are choosing to have come into form.
